Resilient is another band of my dreams. If you haven't picked up on this yet, I feel forged in the memories of the Riot Grrrl culture. The vibes and the energy of the punk-y, grunge-y bands that existed for a purpose and had more to sing about than someone breaking their heart. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a good love song, but give me something angry, something that pumps my blood and makes me think or calls me to action. That's what gets to me.

Resilient has gone through different iterations since the band formed in the summer of 2013, always including sisters, Erin and Katie Fox. The original line-up is back together with Buckminster Kellorgg and Kat Bohn reojoining the Fox sisters in November 2019. They recorded a new album at Studio North with Sean Reilly that will hopefully be released this summer!

Today, Resilient released their music video for the first single, Superior. The song is about the aggravation and disappointment Erin feels toward our current administration. How these leaders are careless, their treatment of others trickles down, it presents the masses with the impression that it's ok to treat people poorly, to act "superior" to others. She points out that "even though we're all human, humanity seems to be often lacking."

Because of our current social distancing restrictions, the video was not shot a traditional manner. Instead, friend of the band, Isaac Forde put together a "quarantine-style" video, resulting in a nostalgic, 90's aesthetic. The video cuts back and forth between snippets from current news stories and single shots of each band member. It's a true DIY masterpiece.

We've got 3 new(ish) music videos for you to check out!! Time isn't real to us anymore, which is how a FULL MONTH somehow passed since Grocer released their music video for Blue Danube, the second single off of their upcoming album, set to release at the end of May!

Dani Mullen of Fruut has been putting us all to shame with their insane productivity during this quarantine (not that it's a competition, but damn are they THRIVING). Fruut and Fortunwest released FAKE IT today on all streaming platforms. The music video accompanying the single was shot by Outergrace and came out yesterday. It's like a mix between home movies and Tron.

Time isn't real to us anymore, which is how a FULL MONTH somehow passed since Grocer released their music video for Blue Danube, the second single off of their upcoming album, set to release at the end of May! The song is about the harder parts of a relationship, but I've applied it to experiencing this quarantine and I have to say, it really fits. The video is a weird green screen adventure through an abandoned hotel, an oddly fitting backdrop to the drawling vocals and droning music that really makes you feel the hopelessness and confusion in the lyrics.

This last one is a music video for the song, Petman, by Man Like Machine. Inspired by a love of the silent film, Metropolis, the music video is about (and I'm just going to let Joshua Bright, the vocalist and guitarist for the band explain in his own words because it really is the best description), "A middle aged Man baby, raised & encaged by Artificial Intelligence from birth, finally reaches the brink of madness while pondering what it's like to walk outside..."

We get it, it's hard to stop listening to Fiona Apple right now. But please consider taking a break from your Fetch the Boltcutters binge to take a listen to this captivating new album by Overwinter. We promise, you'll be happy you did.

Overwinter released their debut album, Francis Winter, under Goodhowareyou Records, and it is a perfect mix of new and old. Francis tells us that he is inspirited by a solid mix of modern (Phantogram, Gorillz, Metric) and motown (James Brown, The Temptations, Minnie Riperton), and the result is a mesmerizing, all-encompassing journey from the first track all the way through the end.

Francis's writing process is pretty organic, creating the instrumentals with sampling first. After listening to the track over and over, he starts on the lyrics. Francis explores many relatable (for better or for worse) topics in his lyrics, "I wrote about falling in love and getting to know my partner [in the song Late Nights and Smokes], surviving an abusive relationship even though part of me didn't want to leave [in the song For U] ...mental health was also a big theme in these songs. And of course, just being a big ole gay." Francis is able to bring genuine authenticity to his music with so much ease, even when the topics are complicated and difficult to approach. The entire album was recorded and produced at home by Francis, making it that much more impressive.

Check out the album here! And make sure you follow Overwinter on Instagram here, and Goodhowareyou Records here!
